PrairieBench.com on Location

Prairiebench.com is looking after a second site. Surrounded by a Ponderosa pine ecological preserve and across the street from a provincial park. We are taking down the standing deadwood and reducing the fire hazard, picking quality samples to use in future designs.

The site is situated in its valley with a meadow, extensive pine, fir, aspen, and cedar stands. Juniper, kinnickinnick, wildflowers, and wild strawberries cover the ground. This is the northernmost reaches of the Ponderosa pine belt and a protected area. Residents include local squirrels, chipmunks, ravens, grouse, whiskeyjacks, wolf, possible cougar (see paw print next to axe), wild horses, big horn sheep, deer, elk, bear, and moose.

It’s a diverse and rugged location and we were humbled by the opportunity to access select pieces of character wood for our clients. We may add amenities and offer friends and patrons a breathtaking retreat for creative pursuits, snow sports, hiking, and a chance to escape in a unique natural environment. It’s in the ‘magic triangle’ between the ‘center of the universe’ at Vidette, the ‘origin of life’ in Pavilion Lake, and the doorstep to the Chilcotin Plateau. This is the wild west.

Soon we’ll be showcasing new projects using blue timber and more of our weathered plank furniture. We’ll also enjoy touring the region for reclaimed samples and select barnwood from past eras. We’re always collecting antique iron and old fixtures to incorporate in our ideas. Check back for updates.

Friends have designed and built their own CNC machine (computerized 3D carving). At PrairieBench.com, we had the opportunity to pass along some new designs to our patrons.

We’ve run coasters, throne backboards, shields, address signs, wall hangings and interior decor. Now we can design complex carving paths and produce art and functional wood creations.

We will be trying out ideas and new patterns in our projects. Check back for our latest creations, or if you require custom wooden signs, crests, or plaques… leave us a comment with your email.

Royal Wedding Thrones

When realms combine… We’ve recently completed a set of thrones for both king and queen. Designed in reclaimed spruce and finished in extra layers of Prairiebench Storybook, these are regal accents for a newly weds in their new castle.

Hers: a double-headed eagle crest and Rococo styled crown with seven Cabernet coloured jewels;
His: a double lion crest with crown of seven silver jewels.

These were built on sunny days, outdoors, beneath birds and willow boughs on our farm. To add precision to the design, we asked our friends at Sawitall.net to plot the design onto each backboard.

Man Cave Sign

We live outdoors, but some brothers like the cave life. It’s a good idea to mark their territory with a warning. With our friends at Sawitall.net, we did a couple test runs with a rustic man cave sign.

One is a wild west font and the other looked good with a rough edge and some bolts.

Bear Shield

Prairiebench.com teams with Sawitall.net to create a blend of old and new world decor. We’ve combined a medieval shield with a computer carving; the Bear Shield.

After a few tests we were surprised at the outcome. We’ve done three using old planks for defensive equipment then adding some plotted whittling. After, we glue the slats together and finish with PrairieBench Storybook finish. We’re going to add one more special feature with some glow-in-the-dark paint. Check back for more photos… once the dust settles.
